K口U presents Aural Bytes: A Musical Omakase

Aural Bytes: A Musical Omakase

The term Omakase is commonly used in Japanese cuisine and translates to “I will leave it up to you”. Applying this concept to the project, K⼝U presents 15 newly commissioned pieces by 5 prominent Singaporean composers with a set of instructions as to how to best enjoy each piece. The team will be working closely with the composers to curate the best programme for our listeners. Accompanying these new commissions will be a side of album art and a video crafted to suit a piece each composer by local designer and video director, Melissa Lim.

This project has been made possible with the generous support of the National Arts Council Singapore as part of the Digital Presentation Grant for the Arts (DPG).

This project was conceptualized over the Circuit Breaker period and was realized in the later part of 2020. For me, it was a project that I truly believed in, we kept our identity of wanting to redefine the average concert going experience despite having restrictions of presenting the ‘concert’ online. 15 pieces in the short span of time was an incredible feat from all our team members. Thankyou to K⼝U for the organized, no-fuss rehearsals (& post rehearsal food and fun), to Mel for your professionalism despite the tight timeline, to Eric for the recording and granting our every request post-production and last but not least to the 5 composers for your beautiful works and newly found friendship.
