Soloist with Singapore Wind Symphony (Rhapsody for Baritone Saxophone by Mark Watters & Ballade by Alfred Reed)

Grateful to the Singapore Wind Symphony, Daniel Yiau (conductor) & Gabriel Song (chairman) for inviting me as a soloist—it was an absolute honor to perform Alfred Reed’s Ballade and Mark Watters’ Rhapsody for Baritone Saxophone. Taking on the baritone sax was a challenge that pushed me in so many ways—I even picked up running and continued swimming to build the strength and lung capacity it demands! I chose Watters’ Rhapsody to showcase the incredible possibilities of the baritone saxophone—crazy runs, a wide dynamic range, an impressive pitch range (including altissimo!), and to prove that one is not limited by stature.

Thankful also to the incredible people behind the scenes who made the experience so seamless! Giant thankyou to the amazing members of SWS who created such a wholesome and encouraging environment that gave me the space to enjoy music-making together. This was not just a performance but a valuable learning journey, and a nice reminder that even in my 30s, I can still memorize music. Thank you for this unforgettable opportunity!
