"What do you enjoy the most about the holiday season?
**sound on** A saxophone quartet recording project with Ewha Womans University’s composition department, this piece by Jiwon Kim was aptly entitled < Spider >. To me, it was an extremely tactile piece that brought the insect to life through the different saxophone techniques. It starts off with air sounds followed promptly followed by ‘controlled’ screeching (blowing through the instrument with teeth on the reed), the creature was then brought to life with groups of 8 slaps and multiphonics which to me symbolized movement and energy. 🎷
Felt a bout of inspiration this week! Here’s a little improv I did: #1 for 4 voices and tenor saxophone. It was an exploration of colour, textures & emotions through a medium that has challenged me from time to time - my voice. I started with the tenor saxophone clicks, inspired by that I layered on voice; it gave me an opportunity to expose vulnerability yet find some kind of stability eventually. 🎷♥️🎵🎧🎤🎛
What a treat to work with these fabulous bunch of musicians @ritxuflute @jonathanshinmusic @lienboonhua in this project with @voguesingapore x @nacsingapore 🎧♥️ it was for me a celebration of music-making after a long hiatus. A giant thankyou also to the fabulous team behind the project - pleasure getting to know everyone and loved working with all of you! I've never felt more taken care of! Please enjoy!
